One page color-coded writer's storyboard

Your students are lucky. You’re helping them improve their connections to books and technology.

There are so many interesting things that we can do in an author visit.  For example, we can show how to create a writer’s mock-up of a book or a writer’s storyboard, complete with color-coding.  The writer’s storyboard/mock-up can be contrasted with an illustrator’s mockup, character sketches, etc.

Author and illustrator visits do much more than offering a fun break from classroom routines. They:

  • Motivate students to write;
  • Help children understand the motivations of people by analyzing and fostering character development;
  • Stimulate creativity and
  • Give children different ways to enjoy school.
  • Virtual visits show children how to use technology, a valuable skill.

I provide two types of author visits, in-person and virtual.  If you’d like I’ll invite another author and/or artist to participate.

This allows for multiple points of view and for a wide variety of interesting discussions.

For example: Young children might be interested in how the clouds at the top of this illustration from LOVE IS IN THE AIR, turned into sheep and why the bunny feel asleep on the moon. A virtual visit could include myself and the illustrator. Several different authors and author-illustrators in the same meeting is another possibility.

To explore which options are best for you, please take a moment to fill out the Author Visit dialogue.  It will help you to clarify what will create a fascinating visit for your school, library or organization. We can work through the details of the presentations later.
